Description
Newark & Sherwood District Council has been awarded a Round 1 development grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund for preparatory work towards a major project to protect and enhance the historic gatehouse at Newark Castle in Newark, Nottinghamshire. The project will involve the gatehouse being fitted with a new roof and floors and a new access being opened up via the castle's northwest tower. The new area will be used to house permanent and temporary exhibits and as an education facility. The Council is now seeking to engage a suitably qualified and experienced Design Team to produce the necessary plans, drawings and documents for the Newark Castle Gatehouse Transformation project. The documents will be used to inform the Council's project proposals by inputting to a long-term maintenance and management strategy and costs for both the Gatehouse and wider Castle structure and assisting with obtaining the necessary consents for the project. The documents will also be used in support of an application for significant Heritage Lottery funding towards the delivery stage of the Gatehouse project. The Design Team will be responsible for all the architectural services required to support the project through to completion. They will act as the lead consultant and contract administrator for the conservation and conversion of the Gatehouse and north-west towers, including working with the selected Exhibition Designer on the fit out and installation of interpretation materials and equipment. The lead architect in the team must be AABC Conservation Accredited. The contract for this commission will start in February 2018 and is timetabled for completion by the end of August 2018.
