Description
PCC has awarded the following contract for redeveloping a particular section of Central Park in Plymouth to create a new destination space that: • Provides sport and leisure facilities in a holistic and coordinated layout; • Responds to the character and setting of the location; • Respects the natural and cultural environment; • Provides access for all; • Demonstrates the environmental values of the Council; • Becomes a source of pride for the City; • Provides value for money in the short and long term. This includes, landscape led, design team to provide a coordinated package that delivers the following works: 1. Expanding the skatepark for additional skate, BMX and parkour; 2. Improve access to and within the events field; 3. Improve pedestrian links between the skate park, play area and main avenues; 4. Remodel and enhance the play area to cater for older and younger children; 5. Construct a new café, incorporating the clock tower (shown within the purple line on the revised plan in appendix C1, east of the Events Field); 6. Designing an arboretum to the north of the park (shown within a purple line to the north of the park, although the exact location of the boundaries is subject to the outcome of the consultation process). From an engineering perspective, some consideration of the drainage proposals will be required; 7. Pathways outside of the "red line" which run throughout the site, shown in appendix C2. We anticipate the engineer to specify build-ups underneath the paths and associated drainage, with the architect specifying the finishing course; 8. Refurbish and possibly extend the bowling green building to accommodate a wider range of users; 9. Construct 4 new tennis courts behind the bowling green building; 10. Refurbish the changing facilities near the baseball pitch, which are assumed to be in a structurally sound condition.
