Tender ID
NEWL005 - Lot 5

Description
Newlyn Pier and Harbour Commissioners is seeking to secure the services of a suitably qualified construction firm to design and build workshops in the harbour on a new quayside. The deadline for responses is: 13:00, Wednesday 12th September 2018. Newlyn is the largest fishing port in England by fleet and landings. It is located near Penzance in Mounts Bay, South West Cornwall. This Trust Port has a long term programme of development and expansion already underway. These plans address a longstanding shortage of good quality workspace in Newlyn, and quayside workspace in Cornwall, with the construction of industrial workshops, marine engineering infrastructure, food processing facilities and office space. This contract, along with Lot 4, relates to the "Canner Slipway" project within this programme which is part of the regeneration of the centre of the harbour estate and town. The Canner Slipway plans are for six to eight sheds of 120m2 on an expanded area of sheet piled, capped quayside with tidal access. The buildings will be steel portal frames suitable for housing marine engineering and fishing operations with the height to accommodate mezzanine offices/storage or gantry crane systems. The current estimate for Canner Slipway, both marine civils and sheds, is £2.5m. Note: the funding source specifies that all buildings should achieve BREEAM excellent certification and a BREEAM Assessor is in the process of being procured separately to cover all three projects being undertaken (Canner Slipway, New Strand and Canner Car Park) to building certification stage and establish what this requirement will mean for the Canner Slipway element. This project, along with the two others in the programme, Canner Slipway and Canner Car Park are being funded by the Newlyn Pier and Harbour Commissioners, supported by a grant from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the ESIF Growth Programme for England 2014 to 2020 with the overall cost of all three elements of the scheme estimated at £6,146,308. Initial designs and costings are available along with site investigations from the immediate area. The timelines for completion of the design and costs for the Canner Slipway workshops is mid October with the build over the following two years. Other build contracts will be issued for the New Strand in November and December of this year.

The Canner Slipway plans are for six to eight sheds of 120m2 on an expanded area of reclaimed quayside with tidal access.
